Updates from Polar Race:
At 19.00 (local time) Magnetic Attraction strode into the finish at Checkpoint 2. They were last but still had a “spring in their step” as they crossed the line after a very wild and windy last couple of days scrambling through big rubble. They openly admit that they are here for the experience and to finish the race rather than to seriously compete – just getting to the Pole is their goal. The team is made up of Lucas Bateman, and two “young” and good looking women Julie Jones and Arabella Slinger.
Lucas is a lawyer and takes great delight in competing in these ultra style marathons. He admitted the other day that only “half way through” the Polar Race had lived up to and beyond all his expectations. He is surprisingly “laid back” for a lawyer.
Arabella is very target orientated and driven and would be seen regularly pulling a tyre round Richmond Park and would even walk to some of our meetings from Central London.
Julie is the “meat in the sandwich” – an old acquaintance and frequent sailing rival. Last year she was European champion in the International six metre class and is frequently to be found racing on many winning yachts She is utterly reliable and committed to anything she does. She is also a very caring person and really bonds this team together. She has 2 very beautiful daughters in their twenties to whom she already looks like an older sister. I have promised her that when she gets back she really will only look a few years older and I always keep my promises!
The three of them are meticulous in their planning and make a capable cheerful unit and one we all know will make it to the Pole.
